Rhyme to Reason
At around eleven years of age, my poetry muse began sending analogous rhymes into my conscious mind on a regular basis. Sometimes a simple alliteration would appear in my thoughts, planting the seeds of a poesy to help me analyze and understand the purpose of trauma and turbulence in life. Other times, an entire poem would just spill out from a daydream for no apparent reason. Mostly, I kept these “pieces of myself” to myself … sharing them felt like that dream where you’re naked in public. When The Way of Ea story started coming together, the angels were quite clear about the purpose of all those poems I’d written. These lyrical mirrors had been patiently waiting to reflect layers of emotion and illuminate the shadows of my story in a way that dialogue and description cannot do. I hope you enjoy these sneak peeks.
I wrote this “self-portrait” poem on July 12, 2012 — two years after having a Stage II Meningioma brain tumor removed. It peers into the struggle of juggling responsibilities with grace and accepting the challenges within us and around us, knowing that we are perfect the way we are. You can let a label pigeon-hole your perspective, or you can allow it to serve as one of the many colors in your personality palette. “Definition of Me” will appear in A Way Out … the fourth novel in this five-book series that transforms a memoir into a metaphysical message wrapped in Spiritual guidance with a little bit of Science Fiction and magic.
The background photo is part of a collection that I’ve recently started working on called, “Accidental Art.” These unplanned occurrences of organic creativity always cause me to pause … take a deep breath … and marvel at the fleeting beauty of one moment that most would dismiss as coincidence, or worse — disregarded the gift altogether. Reverence for spontaneous beauty will bring lightness to your life, and a deeper appreciation for the magnificence that we are surrounded by.
MINDFUL MASTERS’ MESSAGES
Creative expression is an ultimate form of mindful, Divine connection, and I have used art in many forms throughout my entire life to reveal the way my Spirit expresses itself while allowing plenty of room for interpretation of the common threads that, ultimately, bind us all together. In this section, I’ll be pairing my original photography and artwork with messages that have resonated with souls and Spirits all over Mother Earth.
Self-portrait project using Cyanotype, an archival technique that was discovered in 1842; originally referred to as blueprints. THE PROCESS: 1. A standard film negative is enlarged into a film positive. 2. The positive is reproduced back into an enlarged negative. 3. & 4. The big negative is placed on top of thick watercolor paper, after brushing on a layer of photosensitive chemicals. 5. Expose to sunlight/ultraviolet rays until desired color depth is achieved. 6. Remove negative and rinse paper. Photo circa 2004.
QUOTE NOTES: Deepak Chopra has been one of my go-to guides for over 20 years. His simplistic summaries point out the obvious that we all overlook, most of the time. This particular book is co-authored with his son, Gotham, and is a great introduction for tweens and teens into this particular philosophy. From Buddha to Batman, father and son explore the superhero in us all.
